Music Jam and Open Mike at Hoover School and a Concert -- and a Special Event
Join us at the
March jam at Hoover School for music indoors and out.
Our usual format: multiple jam groups from 1-5, open-mike performances on stage
in the Hoover multi-purpose room starting around 1:30 and
the Beginners’ Circle slow jam from 2-3.
At about 3:00 we'll have a concert by well-known bluegrass fiddler
A West Virginia native, Blaine has performed and recorded with first-generation
bluegrass artists Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, The Osborne Brothers and Jim and Jesse,
and legendary country artist Charlie Louvin of the Louvin Brothers. He has also
recorded and performed with a number of contemporary bluegrass groups, as well as
his own ensembles and solo performances.
Come hear some great bluegrass!
Blaine will also teach an hour-long workshop before the concert,
aimed at intermediate-level and above adults. He plans to explore
traditional bluegrass fiddling as well as some great old-timey traditional
Appalachian Mountain tunes, working on such aspects as improving tone,
driving a fiddle rhythmically, and backup techniques in the context of a
For this event, adult jam+concert admission will be $15 (payable at the door).
(Adult jam admission will include admission to the concert as well.
Admission to the jam and concert will be free for children 17 and under,
as for most SCVFA events.)
For those who want to attend the workshop,
a limited number of combination tickets for the jam, concert and workshop
will also be available, for an additional charge.
